Faculty Workshop
Through our Faculty Program we work hand-in-hand with each school to connect faculty to local mental wellness resources, and to provide faculty with tools and strategies to have conversations with their students and coworkers about mental health.
Details:
The JCK Foundation’s Faculty Program helps faculty members support student mental health needs as well as their own. We accomplish this by demonstrating how to create positive environments in their classrooms wherein mental health is normalized and students feel comfortable having discussions about mental health. The interactive workshop includes polls and case studies, with an option to include a faculty-led discussion-based activity or small group discussions facilitated by JCK staff/volunteers and school mental health professionals.
Through our program, we aim to cultivate an environment where:
Faculty feel valued, accepted and motivated to make a positive impact on their own wellness and that of their peers and their students.
Faculty feel prepared with the necessary skills to confidently navigate student mental health crises
Faculty are connected to local mental wellness resources, and provided with tools and strategies to have conversations with their students and with each other about mental health.
Faculty feel empowered to discuss techniques and strategies for taking care of their own mental health. So often, faculty members spend so much time and energy taking care of their students, we want to make sure YOU feel supported! We want to use this opportunity to really help you on your mental health journey and build community, resources and dialogue around this topic
The hour-long workshop aims to teach faculty how to:
Recognize signs of mental illness in their students
Talk with students one-on-one about mental health
Refer students to mental health resources as needed
Feel empowered to have mental health discussions with fellow faculty members
Utilize helpful coping mechanisms to support their own mental health
